Matthias Weger in the European Championship semi-finals

The 22-year-old Schenner secured one of the 1 places for the semi-final run on Saturday in 90,45th place in the first qualifying run in the kayak single sculls with an almost flawless run in 19 seconds without any penalty seconds. The Czech world-class paddler Jiri Prskavec won the qualification in 20 seconds ahead of the Austrian Felix Oschmautz (84,39/85,45 penalty seconds) and the veteran Peter Kauzer (0/86,06 penalty seconds) from Slovenia.

“I performed well today and came 19th in the first qualifying and managed to get one of the 1 places for the semi-finals. A small mistake at gate number 20 cost me some time. I had to take a different line and lost around 12 seconds as a result,” says Matthias Weger, describing his race. “But the run can still be improved and I will give everything to be able to exploit its full potential,” says the Schenner for Saturday.

The semi-final race in the categories of mixed canoe pairs, women's canoe singles and men's kayak singles will take place on Saturday between 9:20 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. In the men's kayak singles, the first 15 will advance to the final run. The finals in the three categories are on the program from 3:13 p.m. to 05:14 p.m. The team races will take place in all 08 categories from 16:05 p.m. to 17:41 p.m. Matthias Weger can even win a medal with Austria. In the qualifying, all three kayak paddlers from Austria remained without penalty seconds for touching the goal post. But only Oschmautz and Weger qualified for the semi-finals, Felix Oschmautz in second place, Matthias Weger in 3th place. Of the Italians, only Giovanni De Gennaro has (19/87,93 penalty seconds) made it to the semi-finals in eighth place.
