Merano qualification: Jakob Weger underlines his ambitions to win

With Jakob Weger in first place, Matthias Weger in third place and Valentin Luthher in fifth place, three Burggräfler slalom canoeists placed in the top five of the qualification. Marco Vianello from the Carabinieri sports group came second. “Due to the heavy water there were very difficult conditions today. Everything went according to plan for me today. I had a flawless run without a pusher and am satisfied with my performance,” said Jakob Weger after his successful qualifying run.

His brother Matthias Weger is also satisfied: “I was able to immediately switch from the plastic boat to the slalom boat and am satisfied with my performance in the qualification. “Tomorrow I will attack again fully in the semi-finals and final,” says Matthias Weger. Jakob Luther took 13th place in the kayak single sculls qualification. The youngest of the SC Meran/Torggler canoe slalom elite team won Italy's 3rd qualification for the Canoe Slalom World Championships and European Championships in the U18 age group today and thus qualified for the U18 World Championships and European Championships in the kayak single sculls. “It could have been better today. But I'm happy that I qualified for the U18 World Cup and European Championships. Tomorrow I can attack fully in the semi-finals and final,” said Jakob Luther.

The Italian Francesca Malagutti won the qualification in the women's kayak single sculls ahead of her compatriot Eleonora Lucato. In the Canadian one of the men, the German Florian Beste was ahead in the qualification and in the women's category the Italian Carolina Massarenti was ahead.

The semi-finals in all boat classes start tomorrow at 9 a.m., the final race at 13 p.m.
