South Tyrolean canoeists are chasing European Championship medals

The successful canoe brothers Matthias (23) and Jakob Weger (21) from Schenna and Jakob Luther (18) from Meran will be at the U23 and U18 European Canoe Slalom Championships in Liptovsky Mikulas/St., Slovakia from Friday. Nicholas in action in Liptov.

Matthias Weger is taking part in the U23 title fights for the last time. His brother Jakob Weger is starting for the third time in the U3, after previously appearing three times at the European Championships in the U23. The younger of the Weger brothers has already won an individual medal four times, gold twice at the U3 European Championships and once at the U18 World Championships, as well as silver once at the U4 European Championships. Jakob Luther, on the other hand, is taking part in the U2 European Championships for the second time. The qualification runs in the kayak single sculls will take place on Friday morning, the team runs on Friday afternoon. In both age groups, 18 paddlers qualified for the semi-final heat in the kayak sculls, 23 in the first run and 23 in the second run.

On Friday, the 3 Burggräfler slalom canoeists are already paddling for the medals in the kayak single team race, Matthias Weger with Felix Oschmautz and Mario Leitner in the U23 for Austria, Jakob Weger with Marco Vianello and Davide Ghisetti for Italy also in the U23. Jakob Luther, on the other hand, will compete in the K1 team run for Italy in the U18 on Friday with Leonardo Grimandi and Tommaso Barzon. All 3 Burggräfler canoeists go into the team races with a chance of winning a medal.
