Weger brothers paddle to the semi-finals in Brazil

Qualifying in the kayak singles was no stumbling block for the two Schenner brothers. Both easily qualified for the semi-finals in the kayak single sculls, Jakob in 23rd place in the U18 qualification and Matthias in 29th place in the U23 qualification. The semi-finals in both age groups will take place on Friday. According to the new regulations, the first 30 in the first round of the kayak singles qualify for the semi-finals. The canoeists from 31st place onwards compete in a second run, with the ten best of them also making it to the semi-finals.

Matthias Weger was the first of the two canoe brothers from Schenna to paddle through the 20 gates in the Foz do Iguazu art canal. Three contacts with the goal post cost him six seconds of penalty, which were added to his running time of 93,20 seconds. With a time of 99,20 seconds, Matthias Weger took 29th place in the qualification. The Brazilian Pedro Da Silva won the qualification in 85,64 seconds without penalty seconds ahead of the Czech Jiri Prskavec (86,08/2 penalty seconds) and the Slovakian Andrej Malek (88,34/2 penalty seconds).

Jakob Weger achieved a running time of 18 seconds in the kayak single sculls in the U96,78 qualification, to which there were also two penalty seconds for touching the goal post. The reigning U18 European champion in the kayak single sculls took 98,78rd place in the qualifying in 23 seconds and thus qualified for the semi-finals, just like his brother Matthias. The best in the U18 qualification was the Czech Alexandr Maikranz (88,02/0 penalty seconds) ahead of the Slovakians Samuel Stanovsky (88,57/0 penalty seconds) and Jakub Grigar (89,70/4 penalty seconds).

The Weger brothers have to improve in the semifinals if they want to reach the final with the ten best kayak paddlers, which is scheduled for Saturday in both age groups.

Weger brothers paddle to the semi-finals in Brazil

The two most successful young paddlers from SC Meran, Meran Matthias (19) and Jakob Weger (16), successfully completed the first part of the competition on Wednesday (local time) at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Foz do Iguazu, Brazil.
