Bozen Swimmeeting: More stars confirm their commitment

At the first press conference nine days ago, meeting boss Christian Mattivi was able to sign two prominent names: Italian star Luca Marin and Olympic champion Nick Thoman. “We now have the definitive confirmation from Fabio Scozzoli,” says a relieved Mattivi. The breaststroke specialist is Italy's most successful men's swimmer in recent years, even though he started as the medal favorite at the Olympic Games in London and ultimately had to settle for seventh place in the 100 m. The 24-year-old from Ravenna won gold and silver in the 100 and 50 m breaststroke at the European Championships in Hungary in May. Even at the European Short Course Championships in Poland a year ago, Scozzoli was unbeatable over 50 m. He has been one of the stars at the rectory for years and wants to lay the foundation for a successful season in Bolzano, which will culminate in the World Cup in Barcelona in the summer of 2013.

Alessandro Terrin, who first attracted international attention in 2006 by winning the gold medal at the European Long Course Championships in Budapest and was short course runner-up world champion in the same year, will also be making his comeback at the rectory after a long injury break. He wants to attack again at the age of 27.

Josh Schneider has also been seen in Bolzano for the last two years. Third place in the 2010 Short Course World Championships in Dubai in the freestyle sprint is always an attraction and also holds the official US record for the 50m freestyle on the short course of 20,80 seconds.

The Danish breast specialist Rikke Möller Pedersen will be competing in Bolzano for the first time. The 23-year-old is the current number one on the continent in the 100 and 200 m, she has held the short course European Championship record over 100 m since 2009 (1.04,21), and won the 25 m pool at the last European Championships in December In 2011 in Poland she won gold in the 200 m and with the Danish medley relay and silver in the 100 m. In 2009 she was also short course European champion over 200 m.

A top swimmer from Russia is also coming to South Tyrol. Stanislav Lakhtyukov and his team won silver in the medley relay at the last Short Course World Championships in Dubai in 2010. The 100m breaststroke specialist wants to make it difficult for Scozzoli to win. In 2009 he even set a short course European record in Berlin in 57,16 seconds.
