The Cool Swim Meeting is back

“We are a little behind this year, but the meeting will take place,” says Walter Taranto, president of the organizing committee, which is formed from the two Meran swimming clubs AS Meran and SC Meran. “We will follow all protocols. We also want to set a positive example for our young people and show that a certain normality will soon return.” The Cool Swim Meeting in Merano will traditionally be a good test for many swimmers from Italy for the Sette Colli Meeting in Rome, which takes place from June 25th to 27th, a week after Merano. The last Olympic tickets for the Azzurri team will be awarded at the Foro Italico. “The collaboration with the Italian Swimming Federation continued last year. Head coach Stefano Morini’s national long-distance swimming team was also a guest in Meran for two weeks last summer and trained in the Lido,” said Taranto. But Matteo Ciampi, one of Italy's many good swimmers in the 200 m freestyle, and Federico Turrini have already confirmed their attendance. “Of course we would be happy if South Tyrol’s exceptional swimmer Stefano Ballo would also be there. He has also secured his starting place in Tokyo,” says Taranto, who also wants to ensure that all clubs from the region are there. “The collaboration with the association in Trento is going very well,” says the 57-year-old, who is also president of the South Tyrolean Swimming Association. The program at the Cool Swim Meeting remains the same compared to the last editions, apart from small changes. “We will have five competition sections over three days. I think we will have a lot of participants because there are not that many meetings this summer,” says Marco Giongo, the event’s technical director. Gebhard Unterrainer, SCM section head and OK vice president, says: “We also have inquiries from Germany and will therefore of course always keep an eye on epidemiological developments. We are confident that we will be able to put together a meeting that meets all safety requirements.”

The Cool Swim Meeting is back

After the corona-related break in 2020, the Cool Swim Meeting in the Merano Lido is back this year. The fifth edition of the international event will take place on the weekend of June 18th to 20th.
