The stars are ready for the 2nd Cool Swim Meeting in Meran

As expected, Gregorio Paltrinieri and Gabriele Detti were the stars at the press conference. Paltrinieri has been the world's best swimmer in the 1500m freestyle for many years, crowning his career with Olympic victory in Rio 2016. Detti brought back two bronze medals from Brazil and broke Massimiliano Rosolino's 17-year-old Italian record in the 400m freestyle in April. The highlight of the evening came when Paltrinieri and Detti were given a pair of traditional leather trousers and a shirt as a gift and immediately tried them on.

In addition to Paltrinieri and Detti, South Tyrol's best swimmer Laura Letrari from Brixen and her training partner Jasmine Alkahldi from the Philippines were also there on Wednesday at the Josef Mountain Resort. Both will also start at the Cool Swim Meeting, which is considered a dress rehearsal for the Sette Colli meeting a week later in Rome (June 23rd to 25th), where the last World Cup tickets will be awarded. The long track world championships in Budapest at the end of July are the highlight of the year.

The meeting begins on Friday at 16 p.m. with the 50 m sprint races. Saturday opens at 10 a.m. with the 400 m freestyle. The final and highlight of the program is the 12 m freestyle on Sunday around 1500 p.m.

SC Meran and AS Meran form the organizational team The idea of setting up an international meeting came to Meran in 2015 after the new 50 m pool in Meran was officially opened. In 2016, the Cool Swim Meeting was launched with the establishment of a historic organizing committee. Historically, because the two once rival swimming clubs in the Passerstadt, the Sportclub Meran/Schwimmen and AS Merano Nuoto, have common cause and work together.
