Two stars, two victories and two meeting records – the Americans performed brilliantly in Bolzano. The standout athlete on day one was Kelsi Dahlia. The Rio Olympic relay champion opened the event on Saturday afternoon with a meeting record in the 100 m freestyle. In 52,61, she beat Arianna Vanderpool Wallace's previous record from 2015 by eight hundredths of a second. Dahlia won safely ahead of Madison Kennedy (54,22) and Erika Ferraioli (54,32). Shortly afterwards, Dahlia followed up with the meeting record in the 50 m dolphin. In 25,67, she was 0,03 seconds faster than Inge Dekker in 2009. Dahlia received 1000 euros in prize money and lots of applause from the spectators in the sold-out Albert Pircher Hall.

Kathleen Baker, the fastest backstroker in the world, who set a new world record for the 100 m backstroke on the long course in 58,00 seconds at the end of July, was also in a class of her own in this race in Bolzano. In 56,85 she swam a sensational meeting record and was 1,31 seconds faster than Kira Touissant last year (58,16). Letrari narrowly misses the podium Baker, who is in Bolzano for the first time, also put in a fabulous performance in the 100m individual medley and was unrivaled in 59,35. South Tyrol's star Laura Letrari missed the podium in fourth place in 1.01,97:1.01,50 and also had to give way to Dahlia (1.01,75:XNUMX) and Stewart (XNUMX:XNUMX).

Fabio Scozzoli has been a regular guest at the rectory for many years. This year he also met expectations. He won the eagerly awaited duel with Nicolò Martinenghi over 50 m breaststroke in 26,40 seconds (Martinenghi 26,84) and celebrated his 16th victory in Bolzano. Scozzoli's friend Martina Carraro won the women's 50m breaststroke in 30,99 ahead of Estonia's Maria Romanjuk (31,26) and Baker (31,38).

There was also an Italian victory thanks to the talented Thomas Ceccon, who was the fastest in the 52,00 m backstroke in 100 seconds. He won ahead of Lorenzo Mora (52,37) and David Gamburg from Israel (52,47).

On Sunday the stars will be in the water at the South Tyrol swim meeting from 13.50:XNUMX p.m.
