A cool swim meeting of records is coming up

The 5th edition of the Cool Swim Meeting from Friday to Sunday in the wonderful 50 m pool of the Merano Lido will be a record event. Many stars of the Italian scene have confirmed their attendance. Above all, of course, Gabriele Detti, the 800 m freestyle world champion from 2017 in Budapest. The 26-year-old from Livorno, who won bronze in the 2016 and 400 m freestyle at the last Olympic Games in Rio in 1500, comes to the Passer city directly from a three-week training camp in Livigno. Detti will swim the 50m freestyle sprint on the opening day on Friday and then the 400m freestyle, which he also has in the Olympic Games program.

Swimming head coach Cesare Butini was at the press conference on Wednesday evening in the beautiful ambience of the Josef Mountain Resort in Falzeben ober Hafling, where the meeting was presented. “The desire to compete is great,” said Butini, underlining the slogan of the Cool Swim Meeting 2021 “Let’s race again”. For Italy's swimming, the Olympic Games in Tokyo at the end of July are set to be the highlight of a great season so far. “We were represented in a final 52 times at the European Championships in Budapest in May and won 27 medals. That was unthinkable a few months ago,” says OC boss Walter Taranto with a certain satisfaction. There are not only athletes from Italy, but also from Austria and Germany. The name of sprinter Stefano Razeto stands out. At the age of 35, he won bronze in the 50 m freestyle in 22,79 seconds at the German Championships two weeks ago in Berlin and was registered with the fastest time. Laura Letrari is also there The first highlight on Friday will be the 400 m freestyle, when Detti meets his training partner Marco De Tullio. The two took fourth and fifth place at the European Championships over this route. The spectators in the Lido can look forward to medley specialist Alberto Razzetti, who made his breakthrough this year and won silver and bronze in the 400 and 200 m at the European Championships. We can also look forward to Thomas Ceccon, who won two relay medals at the European Championships and was in the finals of two individual races.

Sara Franceschi, who narrowly missed out on a medal in the Duna Arena in fourth and fifth place in the 200 and 400 m individual medley, is also there in Merano, as is Alice Mizzau and of course Laura Letrari, at 32 years old still South Tyrol's best swimmer and captain of Bolzano Nuoto.
