Another top-class Brazilian is coming to Bolzano

According to Cesar Cielo, the fastest swimmer in the world over 50 and 100 m freestyle on the long course, and the famous backstroke swimmer Guilherme Guido, Bolzano has a third exceptional athlete from Brazil to offer. Like Cielo and Guido, breast specialist Felipe Franca da Silva is already 32 years old. He is preparing to swim his last major season on the international stage and wants to make another splash at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo at the end of his career. Franca da Silva was world champion in the 50 m breaststroke in Shanghai in 2011 and runner-up in the same distance two years earlier in Rome.

Franca da Silva has won no fewer than six gold medals at the Short Course World Championships in his career (three in individual races, three with the Brazilian relay). He is also a four-time Pan American champion. Franca da Silva has also held the American records in the 2014 and 50 m breaststroke on the short course since 100 in 25,63 and 56,25 seconds, and he will make life difficult for Fabio Scozzoli. Italy's veteran has already celebrated 17 victories in Bolzano.

South Tyrol's best swimmers at the start In addition to Laura Letrari, South Tyrol's most famous and successful current swimmer will also be seen in Bolzano. For Stefano Ballo it is a return to home. The 26-year-old grew up at the rectory in Bolzano and now trains in Caserta. Last season he finally made his big breakthrough and, as one of the protagonists of Italy's 4 x 200 m freestyle relay team, narrowly missed out on bronze at the World Championships in July in Gwangju, South Korea, finishing fourth.

“We are happy that Stefano is starting in Bolzano,” says OK boss Christian Mattivi. “Ballo will be seen in three races: he swims the 50 and 100 m freestyle as well as the 100 m individual medley.”

Another top-class Brazilian is coming to Bolzano

Ten days before the 23rd edition of the South Tyrol Swim Meeting, the outstanding field of participants is complete. The SSV Bozen OK team has brought a select field to Bozen, which has been expanded to include a few prominent names in the last few days.
