Italy's sports wedding of the year - and a South Tyrolean in the middle of it

The fact that Federica Pellegrini inspires the masses is nothing new. Thanks to her countless successes, she is not only Italy's best swimmer of all time, but is also considered one of the most glamorous athletes in the boot state. The 2008 Olympic champion's style fascinates, but also always offends. She is therefore often described in the media with the word “divina”, meaning divine.

This image also confirms her when it comes to love: For years, the country's tabloids speculated whether the 34-year-old from Mirano would make a couple with her trainer Matteo Giunta. The two of them didn't confirm this for a long time, only a year ago - when Pellegrini swam her last race on a big stage at the Olympic Games in Tokyo - she cleared the air.

Pellegrini is now enjoying her retirement and was able to prepare for her big private highlight: On Saturday she said yes to her Matteo. It was a ceremony straight out of a picture book. The wedding took place in the church of San Zaccaria in the middle of Venice and just a few minutes from St. Mark's Square. There is no more suitable location for the wedding of a swimming star! Letrari as a bridesmaid Among those present at the wedding was Giovanni Malagò, the President of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). That alone shows what importance Pellegrini has for the Azzurri. And a well-known South Tyrolean also mingled with the wedding party: Laura Letrari, South Tyrol's most successful swimmer of all time, is a close friend of Pellegrini and was one of the bridesmaids in a pink outfit. The woman from Brixen, who ended her career a few weeks ago, was already there at Pellegrini's bachelorette party.

When the newlyweds left the church, they were not only greeted with the traditional grains of rice, but also by thousands of onlookers who cheered them on and made the wedding an unforgettable event. Pellegrini and Giunta then took a speedboat towards the luxury hotel “JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa”, where the invited guests celebrated until late into the night. A wedding that had it all.
