The main thing is to swim again

Around 230 swimmers were able to swim their first competition in the Albert Pichler Hall in Bolzano, after a break of nine months. The participating teams had the only opportunity at the South Tyrol swim meeting to view their swimmers for the upcoming Italian team championships in order to submit their entries to the professional association this week. The 24th South Tyrol Swim Meeting was held under strict safety requirements; For example, no audience was allowed, mouth and nose protection was absolutely mandatory and all starting blocks were disinfected after each start. Since 250 athletes were admitted to the South Tyrol Swim Meeting, the event had to be divided into 2 sections in order not to exceed the maximum number of 150 people admitted. The highlight of the second day of competition was Sabrina Weger (SSV Bozen) with her victory in the 2 freestyle in an excellent 50 seconds and Matteo Gusperti (Team Nuoto Trento) with his victory in the 25,77 butterfly in a sensational 100. The level was surprisingly very good, and you could see that the participants had a “great desire” and fun in competitive sports. For once, it wasn't world-class stars who were in the spotlight, but rather national swimmers. The fact that this year, the 24th edition, for the first time no event records were broken was of secondary importance. The focus was on another big victory: after March 2020 and July 2020, a swimming competition was finally possible again.

The big winner of the 24th South Tyrol Swim Meeting is undoubtedly South Tyrolean swimming. For the 10th time, this special event was also held as a green event to combine sport with sustainability.
