Top-class swimming meeting in South Tyrol presented

For 20 years, SSV Bozen has managed to bring Olympic champions, world champions and European champions to the valley town. At the premiere in 1997, Manuela Dalla Valle was the big attraction at the rectory at the end of her career. Two decades later, the South Tyrol Swim Meeting is the first big test at the start of every short course season in Italy. “We will have great champions at the start again this year,” said OK boss Christian Mattivi. “Especially the two men’s 50 and 100 m breaststroke races promise to be a hit, as there will be a duel between old champion Fabio Scozzoli and the young challenger Nicolò Martinenghi.” Scozzoli has already celebrated twelve victories in Bolzano, won 22 medals at world and European championships, and set 13 Italian records and one European record. Martinenghi, on the other hand, is the new star in Italian swimming. He is eleven years younger than Scozzoli, he won two gold medals at the Junior World Championships in Indianapolis in August and also set a new Italian record on the long course in the 100 m breaststroke in 59,01 seconds.

The South Tyrol Swim Meeting is of course also an important competition for the local athletes, especially Lisa Fissneider and Laura Letrari. Fissneider will start in Bolzano, but not at the Italian Championships in Riccione at the beginning of December. “I’m not putting any pressure on myself after the knee operation,” explained the swimmer from Kaltern. “It will be difficult to achieve the qualifying times for the European Championships on the short course in Denmark, but I'll try and think about my chances, especially in the 100 and 200 m individual medley,” Laura Letrari from Brixen said confidently. Two old friends from the Bolzano meeting have also already confirmed their participation. Sprinter Madison Kennedy from the USA and the Dutch Kira Toussaint, who has held the event best times in the 2015 and 50 m backstroke (100 and 27,15) since 58,20.

Super jackpot of 1000 euros in six races The maximum total prize money for the South Tyrol Swim Meeting this year is 17.630 euros. There is even a super jackpot of 1000 euros to be won on six routes. Those athletes who manage to break a meeting record that is at least three years old will receive this bonus.

Program unchanged: “Best of” on Saturday from 16 p.m. and on Sunday from 13 p.m SSV Bozen is sticking to its tried and tested competition program in its 21st year. The best three series on each route can be seen in concentrated form within 16 minutes on Saturday from 13 p.m. and on Sunday from 90 p.m. “All champions without major interruptions, that has long been proven,” said Mattivi.
