Marco Orsi leads the elite at the swim meeting in Bolzano

“Orsi is a big name in Italian swimming. He can inspire the fans like no other, which is why we are happy that he is coming to Bozen again this year,” says OC boss Christian Mattivi from SSV Bozen. Marco Bears was European champion on the short course in Netanya, Israel, in December 2015. This season he wants to build on the great successes from back then. His flagship distances are the 50 and 100 m freestyle. He also holds the short course Italian records (20,69 and 46,04) on both routes. He has also won seven European Championship gold medals in the 25m pool. Orsi also holds the event records in Bolzano in the 50 and 100 m freestyle (21,34 and 46,98). He has celebrated seven victories at the rectory in the last three years.

“But it’s not that easy for him this time, come with us Eveny Lagunov and Oleg Tikhobaev two strong swimmers from Russia also to Bolzano”. The 32-year-old Lagunov has been among the world's best since the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens (fourth place with Russia's freestyle relay team). He has won two Olympic medals in his career (silver in the 4 x 200 m freestyle in Beijing 2008 and bronze in London 2012 with Russia's quartet in the 4 x 100 m freestyle). He won three silver and one bronze with Russia at the Long Course World Championships. Relay gold at the 2010 Short Course World Championships also appears in his track record. Compatriot Oleg Tikhobaev was part of the Russian quartet that set a world record in the 2014 x 4 m freestyle at the 50 Short Course World Championships in Doha. He also won European Championship bronze in the 2012 relay in Debrecen. With Alexander Knabl Austria's best freestyle sprinter is also coming to Bolzano on the first weekend in November. The Austrian national team is currently holding a high-altitude training camp in Senales Valley and will be coming directly from there to the South Tyrol Swim Meeting.

A strong Brazilian is also registered in the 50 and 100 m freestyle. Matheus de Santana , 20 years old, qualified for the final with Brazil's freestyle relay at the Olympic Games and also won gold in the relay at the 2015 Pan American Championships in Toronto. His greatest individual success was winning the 2014 South American Championships in Santiago in the 100 m freestyle.

The 50 and 100 m freestyle also promise to be interesting for women. With Erika Ferraioli and Aglaia Pezzato Two of Italy's currently fastest swimmers are coming to Bolzano. Both were on the Italian team that won silver at the Short Course World Championships in Indianapolis a year ago. Ferraioli has been an integral part of Italy's freestyle relays for many years. She was in the Olympic final with the Azzurre and won the title with Italy's mixed relay team in the 2014 x 4 m freestyle at the 100 European Championships in Berlin. Also the Austrian Lena Kreund l is reported. She achieved the best Austrian placement with sixth place at both the 2015 Short Course European Championships in Israel in the 100 m breaststroke and at the Short Course World Championships in Windsor in the 100 m individual medley.
