After resignation: Laura Letrari has a new job

On Wednesday - two days late because Letrari was ill - the 2-year-old from Brixen was introduced as head coach of SSV Bruneck. Letrari takes over the position of her long-time coach Dario Taraboi. The 33-year-old successful coach from Bolzano will no longer work in the Pustertal, but will apparently go abroad. Where to is still a mystery.

Letrari, who announced her retirement on July 21 after the Italian Championships in Ostia after almost 20 years of competitive sport, is following in big footsteps. Under Taraboi, Gaia Neidiger, Laura Dema and Ariel Straudi in particular have made a huge leap forward at SSV Bruneck in recent years. Neidiger was even U14 Italian champion a year ago.

The new adventure begins in September. "I am happy. It's not said that a good athlete is also a good coach, but I definitely have a passion for swimming. I can inspire people and I also have a certain amount of experience. And I didn’t want to let the top athletes in Bruneck down after Taraboi left.” Olympic participant and much, much more Letrari was an Olympic participant in London in 2012 (she swam an Italian record in the 4 x 100 m freestyle with Italy's relay team). During her career in Monza in 2009, she set Italian records in the 100 m freestyle (53,83) and 50 m dolphin (26,01) on the short course, and she won 31 medals at the Italian Championships (including 14 titles, the last in December 2021 the short course over 100 m medley), and Letrari was a member of the Italian national team from the 2008 European Championships to the 2018 European Championships. 3 bronze medals at the European Short Course Championships (one of them in the 2010 medley relay in Eindhoven with Lisa Fissneider) are also impressive.

“I’m really excited about the new challenge, it goes from one world to the other very quickly,” said Letrari, who will also start her new job in an army barracks in October. “I also had offers from Bolzano Nuoto and the Brixen Swimming Club, but I’m now looking forward to working in Brunico.”
