European Swimming Championships: DSV lowers relay standards

Kassel (SID) (AFP) The German Swimming Association (DSV) has lowered the relay standards for the European Championships in Glasgow next year (August 2nd to 12th). “By lowering the standards, more athletes can qualify for the European Championships through the relays,” said Henning Lambertz, head national swimming coach at the DSV, on Wednesday: “And I hope that people will go out of their way to get in the relays to come." After exchanging ideas with national and international swimming experts and coaches, Lambertz decided to lower the DSV's already set European Championship standards for the relays. However, the standards for individual routes remain untouched. "If you look at the results of the 2014 and 2016 European Championships, especially the top eight after the heats, and add the times of our fastest four swimmers and subtract the usual second for the relay changes, you can see that we are currently in the finals of all eight relays would be there in the afternoon," said Lambertz. The first chance to crack the new norms comes at the Euro Meet in Luxembourg (January 26th to 28th). “Perhaps the first athletes here in the new year can show off strong times for the 2018 European Championships,” said Lambertz: “The fight for the relay places will open there.”
