South Tyrolean medal shower at the Italian Swimming Championships

One thing in advance: The results from Rome should be viewed with caution, as the elite Italian swimmers are currently in action in the Brazilian Olympic pools. But that doesn't mean that the performances of the participating athletes in Rome should be diminished. After the title fights for the young swimmers from August 4th to 6th were largely unsuccessful from a South Tyrolean perspective, the seniors as well as the U-20/U-18 and junior swimmers from the local province have shown great success since Sunday. First up was Alessandro Pusceddu (SSV Leifers), who won silver in the U-20 category in the 400 meter individual medley in 4.35,52:XNUMX minutes. On Monday, however, Laura Letrari showed what she is made of: In the 100 meter freestyle, she was crowned Italian champion and with a time of 55,63 seconds, she was 24 hundredths of a second ahead of second-place Paola Biagioli. The Brixen native also showed her strong side in the 50 meter dolphin and came second with 26,93 seconds behind Elena Gemo (26,68). Maria Christina Girardi, who comes from Padua but starts for Bolzano Nuoto, took the second gold of the day. In the U-18 class she was unbeatable in the 50 meter dolphin and even set a new national record with 27,14 seconds. Also strong was the performance of Lisa Fissneider, who was in good shape towards the end of the season and set a new personal best time for the year in the 100 meter breaststroke with 1.09,23:XNUMX minutes. She was rewarded with the silver medal. Traminer David Springhetti, who starts for Leifers, also took part. In the U-20 category he won the silver medal in the 100 meter breaststroke. The remaining title fights will take place today, Tuesday and Wednesday.
