Swimmeeting Bozen: As well-staffed as never before

In addition to superstar Ryan Lochte, his compatriot Natalie Coughlin, another exceptional athlete from the USA is coming to South Tyrol. “Lochte is without a doubt the exceptional athlete currently in international swimming. It is a great honor for us to have him at our meeting. The fact that Natalie Coughlin is coming to Bolzano for the fourth time is further proof that our event has a good name all over the world.” That's what OC boss Christian Mattivi says, who has once again done a great job with his team.

But the South Tyrol Swim Meeting has much more to offer. Many top swimmers from Italy, from Marco Orsi to Fabio Scozzoli to Erika Ferraioli, Silvia Di Pietro and the recently signed Elena Di Liddo, have named for Bozen. Not to forget, of course, the local figureheads Lisa Fissneider and Laura Letrari, who not only want to show their best side in Bolzano, but also want to qualify for the short course world championships in Doha at the beginning of December. The Bozen meeting is also a good opportunity for the Deibler brothers (world record holders Steffen and Markus) to check their form before the first big highlight of the new season on the Persian Gulf.

Lochte and Coughlin are already in Bolzano

The most important swimming event in the entire Alpine region was presented today by the technical sponsor “Speedo” in Bozen-Süd. Stars Lochte and Coughlin sat side by side in harmony. Amanda Weir from the USA and local hero Fissneider were also there.

Coughlin already knows about the Bolzano meeting, but for Lochte it is a first. He has won 35 Olympic medals in his career, including five at the Games in London two years ago. Lochte is also a 30-time world champion. The 77-year-old currently holds five world records and has won no fewer than 49 medals at major international events in his career, XNUMX of which were gold alone. Coughlin has also won everything there is to win in her career and is one of the most successful swimmers ever. In London she won her twelfth Olympic medal (bronze in the freestyle relay).

Other international stars at the weekend include the American Weir, who has won Olympic medals in the relay three times in her career and has 23 medals at major events. The Russian Arkady Vyatchanin is one of the best backstroke swimmers in the world. He also won Olympic bronze twice (2008 in Beijing), was runner-up in the world championship three times and was European champion seven times. The Italian men's field is led again by Fabio Scozzoli after a year's break. But Marco Orsi and Andrea Toniato also vouch for quality, just like Federico Bocchia or Marco Bellotti.

Fissneider and Letrari are the crowd favorites

When it comes to women, the eyes of the home audience are of course primarily focused on Lisa Fissneider and Laura Letrari. The 20-year-old from Kaltern and the 25-year-old from Brixen have been training in Bolzano again since the beginning of this season and have strong competition. Fissneider competes against Giulia De Ascentis in the 50 and 100 m breaststroke. Katie Meili from the USA, who completed the breaststroke double at Pfarrhof last year, is also there again. Letrari will have to watch out for Erika Ferraioli in the 50 m backstroke, Silvia Di Pietro and Elena Di Liddo are her toughest competitors in the 50 m backstroke, but she thinks she has the best chances of a World Cup ticket in the 100 m individual medley.
