Swimmeeting South Tyrol: “The best field of participants ever”

Olympic champions, world and European champions have announced themselves for the 22nd edition of the Swimeeting South Tyrol. On Saturday from 16.40:18.30 p.m. to 13.50:15.15 p.m. and on Sunday from XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m to experience the world-class swimmers from all over the world live in the 25 m pool at the Bolzano rectory.

The meeting is the first major highlight of the short course season in Italy and the list of participants promises high-class sport. “We have a field that is really impressive. Things have probably never been so good for women. We can look forward to some meeting records, and that’s not too much to promise,” says OC boss Christian Mattivi from SSV Bozen, who has been bringing the stars to Bozen since 1997. The meeting in the Albert Pircher Hall has been an integral part of the international competition calendar for over two decades.

Kathleen Baker is probably the biggest name this year. The 21-year-old from North Carolina set a new world record in the 58,00 m backstroke long course at the US Championships at the end of July in 100 seconds. But Baker has strong competition from his own camp. Ali DeLoof was third in the 2016 m backstroke at the 50 Short Course World Championships in Canada and set a world record that still stands today with the USA's 4 x 50 m medley relay in 1.43,27:11 minutes. The world record relay team also included Kelsi Dahlia Worrell, who will also be competing in Bolzano. There are a total of six swimmers in Bolzano who are part of the USA squad for the Short Course World Championships from December 16th to XNUMXth in Hangzhou, China. In addition to Baker and Dahlia Worrell, there are also Lia Neal, Kendyl Stewart, Madison Kennedy and Michael Chadwick.

Scozzoli is chasing record winners As always, the Azzurri's top line-up will be led by two crowd favorites, Fabio Scozzoli and Marco Orsi. Scozzoli turned 30 in August and won silver in the 50 m breaststroke at the European Championships in August. Scozzoli has already celebrated 15 victories in Bolzano, and this year he can make up further ground on becoming a record winner Thomas Rupprath, who has 18 victories at the rectory. Scozzoli set meet records in the 50m and 100m breaststroke last year.
