Four records on the first day of the Cool Meeting in Meran

In midsummer temperatures there was a “hot” start to the 6th Cool Swim Meeting on Friday. Over 650 active participants from 50 clubs set a new record number of participants. And on Friday evening there were four new meeting records in the 50 m freestyle and 200 m dolphin for women and men. And local hero Laura Letrari also won a race: the 50 m backstroke and finally the skin race over 50 m freestyle.

The Swiss Sasha Touretski opened the meeting with a bang. She won the 50 m freestyle in 25,35 seconds and beat the old event record set by Laura Letrari and Giorgia Biondani by 28 hundredths of a second. There was prize money of 200 euros. “I am very happy with the time, a few days before leaving for the World Championships in Budapest,” says Touretski, who leaves for the Hungarian capital on Wednesday. Letrari had to settle for second place in the freestyle sprint in 26,08 seconds, but a little later the 2-year-old from Brixen had the home victory she had hoped for in her farewell performance. She won the 33 m backstroke in a good 50 seconds ahead of Martina Cenci from Aurelia Nuoto (29,25), who is 13 years younger. “I am delighted with the first day here in Meran. I really wanted to win another race at the end and I succeeded,” said the Brixen native from Bolzano Nuoto, who will end her active career at the end of the summer.

Maxim Lobanovszkij has left his mark on the men's 50m freestyle sprint. The Hungarian, who is foregoing a start at the home World Championships in Budapest next week, stayed under the 21,99-second barrier in 22 and collected a winner's check of 350 euros. He beat Federico Bocchi's previous meeting record (22,19) by two tenths of a second. “This is a wonderful place here, a perfect pool, everything is okay,” said Lobanovszkij, happy about his good time.

The victories in the 100 m breaststroke went to Irene Mati (1.10,33) and Luca Moni (1.02,31), but the meeting records were not in danger. They are held by Martina Carraro and Fabio Scozzoli, who got married a month ago. There were then two event records in the 200 m dolphin. Federica Greco won in 2.12,57:2.14,74, wiping out Sofia Sartori's 2.01,58:1,32. Giuseppe Perfetto was perfect in the men's race in 50:26,30, beating Matteo Ciampi's previous record by 0,17 seconds. The men's 26,17 m backstroke was won by Jacopo Nuca. When he won in 400, he was only 4.21,53 seconds above Simone Sabbioni's Merano record (3.56,63). At the end of the first day there were victories in the XNUMX m freestyle for Lucia Scartozzoni, who was two hundredths of a second ahead after a head-to-head race with Nicole Santulliana in XNUMX:XNUMX minutes, and for Davide Marchello in XNUMX:XNUMX.

The skin race at the end of the first day (a knockout competition over 50 m freestyle) was the big highlight. Lara Letrari thrilled the audience at the edge of the pool and, after five strenuous sprints, beat World Cup starter Touretski in the final in 27,66 seconds and deservedly received the check for 300 euros. Touretski only remained second in 28,60. The men also had a surprise win by Paolo Conte Bonin, who kept the favorite Lobanovszkij (2) in check in the final in 23,78.

The competitions will continue on Saturday in the Meran outdoor pool at 9.30 a.m. The quick series of the second day begins at 17.30:XNUMX p.m.
