20 nations at the start at the FINA Grand Prix in Bolzano

Athletes from 20 nations will take part in the 20th edition of the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Bolzano: a record for the meeting in the South Tyrolean capital, which is undoubtedly one of the local sports highlights. This year, the organizers deviated from the traditional date in June and scheduled the event for the first three days of August. Due to the European Championships taking place immediately afterwards in Berlin, many nations will rest their stars. Nevertheless, 20 nations are expected. Ukraine will not be there. “It’s a shame that they can’t come to Bolzano because of the current unrest in their country,” said Bolzano Nuoto President Ardelio Michielli.

Tania Cagnotto is the big star of the event

Although many teams will travel to Bolzano without their top athletes, spectators can look forward to some well-known stars from the scene. The Chinese Shixin Li (born 1988), who has dominated the FINA Grand Prix at times this season, is there. He will have competition from the Japanese Ken Terauchi. The big star of the event, however, is Tania Cagnotto, who will compete in both the individual diving and the synchronized diving on the 3m board (together with her partner Francesca Dallapè).

“We are pleased that Bolzano is once again the venue for this renowned event this year,” emphasized Mayor Luigi Spagnolli at the press conference in Bolzano. Meanwhile, Bolzano Nuoto President Ardelio Michielli criticized local companies: “There is little interest in the event from local companies. This fact makes us very thoughtful.”

Giorgio Cagnotto: “Tania will train fully again from Monday” The Italian national coach has already turned his attention to the European Championships in the German capital: “We trained hard before the competitions in Shanghai, which is why the sub-optimal results there were predictable. The biggest incentive at the meeting in Bolzano is certainly the home crowd. The athletes will give their best and gain a lot of self-confidence for the European Championships in Berlin. Tania's condition? Her back has been giving her a little trouble lately, but it's probably nothing serious. She will undergo a medical examination and return to full training from Monday.”

The 20th edition of the water jump meeting in the South Tyrolean state capital is in the starting blocks and with great ambitions. 20 nations will be represented at the event in the Bolzano Lido. The Bolzano water jump meeting was officially presented to the media on Wednesday.
