Cagnotto & Co. are ready for the Olympic dress rehearsal in Bolzano

For the city of Bolzano, the fifth stage of the eight-part Grand Prix series is undoubtedly a big event, with numerous stars and starlets from the water jumping world taking part - even if some really big names are missing. Nevertheless, it is also a welcome assessment for the athletes themselves, where both their own form and the condition of their competitors can be closely examined. For Tania Cagnotto, the event in her hometown is logically particularly important: “It is of course always something special to jump in your own city, in front of your own people. That’s why I’m really looking forward to my appearance,” says Cagnotto, who is also aware of the importance of the event with regard to Rio. “This year the FINA Grand Prix in Bolzano is particularly important because there are some jumpers here who will also start in Rio later.”

Cagnotto, Verzotto and Barbu are there Cagnotto sees himself in good shape, is fit and logically wants to compete for medals at the Grand Prix in Bolzano. The chances of this happening are good: the Chinese delegation is full of exceptional jumpers, but the big favorites for Olympic gold, i.e. Wu Minxia, He Zi and Shi Tingmao, are not at the start. Just like the Canadian Jennifer Abel, who, together with Cagnotto, is one of the medal contenders in Rio behind the Chinese. There are three South Tyroleans in the Italian squad for the FINA Grand Prix in Bolzano: In addition to Tania Cagnotto, Maicol Verzotto and Vladimir Barbu are also at the start. Cagnotto competes in individual, synchro (with Francesca Dallapè) and mixed diving (with Verzotto) from the 3 m board, Verzotto, in addition to his mixed performance, also throws himself into the water from the tower and Barbu competes in both the individual and synchronized jumping from the tower.

On Friday the time has come: Then the Bozen Lido will become the venue for the FINA Grand Prix, the last international diving competition before the Olympic Games in Rio. On Wednesday the event was presented at the Thuniversum in Bolzano.
