Record! Tania Cagnotto wins the next European Championship gold

One day before her 31st birthday, Tania Cagnotto gave herself the best present: she dominated her flagship discipline, jumping from the 3-meter board, almost at will and won her third medal in London. The woman from Bolzano had already announced on Wednesday 1 meter board Gold and im Mixed synchronized jumping won silver with Maicol Verzotto. This gold is Cagnotto's 28th medal in continental title fights, putting her behind Patrick Hausding in the all-time best list and setting another new record.

After finishing second in the qualification, Cagnotto improved significantly in the final and showed her best performance of the season to date. Jump by jump she increased her points account and made the competition resign with her error-free performances. In the end she scored an impressive 360,60 points. For comparison: Her worst opponent, Uschi Freitag, who started for Holland, ended up in second place, 30 points (!) behind. The English local hero Grace Reid came third. Francesca Dallapè from Trento had to make do with eleventh place.

“London 2012 is forgotten”

Immediately after the competition, Cagnotto's joy was literally written on his face. “The huge disappointment at the Olympic Games here four years ago has finally been forgotten. “It was a very special competition, also because I can now travel to Rio with a clear head,” said Cagnotto in the winner’s interview. She clearly sees herself on the rise: “When I arrived in London, my form wasn't the best. But I have improved significantly and gained self-confidence. I didn't make any mistakes on the 3-meter board either, but the victory in my favorite discipline will give me further impetus.”

Cagnotto will continue her hunt for medals on Sunday. With Dallapè she competes in the 3-meter synchronized jumping, where the two Azzurre have now been unbeaten since the 2009 European Championships in Turin.
