Windsurfing ace Köster is world champion for the fourth time

Westerland (SID) Windsurfing ace Philip Köster is world champion for the fourth time. A year after his serious knee injury, third place at the World Cup in Sylt was enough for the 23-year-old to win the surfing discipline again. Köster had already won the title in 2011, 2012 and 2015. "This is simply unbelievable after such a hard year. Three months ago I would never have thought of it," said Köster. Köster achieved the decisive victory in a storm and waves up to four meters high off the Brandenburg beach in a duel with the two-time Sylt winner Alex Mussolini (Spain). "I didn't know how good Alex was, so it wasn't clear to me until the end whether it was enough. After that it was just perfect, unbelievable," said Köster after his coup on the last stop of this year's World Cup series. The new world champion was able to easily get over the fact that he wasn't able to win at home in Sylt after a defeat in the semifinals against the Brazilian Marcilio Browne. In September of last year, Köster suffered a torn cruciate and medial ligament as well as a damaged meniscus in his right knee during training and had to undergo surgery. This summer the exceptional surfer made an impressive comeback with victories off Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
