Phenomenal Shiffrin races to slalom gold

The American is 23 years old. And yet she secured her fourth Slalom World Championship title in a row on Saturday. No one has ever achieved such a feat.

Shiffrin, who won six of seven slalom races this year, struggled with problems in the first run, lacked her usual confidence and was therefore “only” in third place. In the second round, however, the American, who was in poor health, pulled everything out of herself, conjured up a brilliant ride in the Swedish snow and crossed the finish line more than a second ahead of Petra Vlhova, who had been leading up to that point. Holdener shows nerves Although there were still two runners at the top at this point, it was clear to many: This Shiffrin time can no longer be bent. And that's how it happened: Sweden's Anna Swenn-Larsson crossed the finish line six tenths of a second behind and won the silver medal - this is the first medal for the host country at this World Cup. So gold for Shiffrin, silver for Swenn-Larsson and bronze for Vlhova – and the Italians? They didn't play any major roles in the World Cup slalom. Chiara Costazza achieved the best result in 20th place, Lara Della Mea and Irene Curtoni were eliminated. There was no South Tyrolean at the start.
