Morena Gallizio from Avelengo took part in the World Ski Championships in Morioka Shizukuishi (JPN) in 1993 and in Sestriere (ITA) in 1997. In Morioka she was fifth in the slalom, in Sestriere seventh in the slalom and fourth in the combination.

...favorites and secret favorites in the alpine combination: “I have Federica Brignone on the bill if she is fit after her fall in Garmisch. For me, the secret favorites are the Norwegians, they are always good for surprises at major events.”

...your personal World Cup highlight: “My first World Cup in Morioka in 1993 was of course something very special for me. Due to the moody weather there was chaos, in the evening it was only said that if the weather was good, the descent would be on the agenda. If not, then slalom will be skied. In Sestriere I had to fight with the journalists because the World Cup wasn't going well and they said there was nothing going on for the Azzurre. Fourth place in the station wagon was the right answer to the sometimes unjustified criticism.”

...curious World Cup experiences: “I had to fly home from Morioka alone. At Tokyo airport I discovered that the excess baggage fee had not been paid by the association. I had to pay for the luggage out of my own pocket, then I took the plane to Frankfurt and from there to Milan.”

...the difficulties of a World Cup race: “If an athlete has been good all season, he has a lot of pressure. A World Cup is really a special race, with surprises in a positive but also a negative sense. In the end, it’s usually what counts on the day.”
