World Cup expert panel: Siegmar Klotz on the station wagon

The Pawigler spent years competing in the Ski World Cup with his friend Dominik Paris. The 31-year-old has now switched to ski cross. However, he missed almost the entire season due to injury. Klotz continues to follow alpine skiing closely. He gave us an expert tip on the men's combination.

Siegmar Klotz about… …favorites and secret favorites in the World Cup combination: “Usually the slalom skiers have a bit of an advantage in the combination. But in Åre, on this particular slope, I see it a little differently. I also don't think Marco Schwarz ( only combined World Cup winner of the current season; Note d. Red. ) is one of the top favorites. I think Alexis Pinturault can be dangerous, as can the Swiss Mauro Caviezel. I have less confidence in the Norwegians and Austrians.”

…the chances of the South Tyroleans: “I have a lot of confidence in Dominik Paris again. I'm guessing he'll win the silver medal. Christof Innerhofer also has outside chances. Riccardo Tonetti can get involved if things go well. A top 10 place is within reach for him.”

…his personal World Cup highlight: “I was only there once, in Schladming in 2013. I wasn't allowed to start on the downhill, even though I achieved the fourth best training time. That’s why the World Cup highlights look a bit poor.”

…his strange World Cup experience: “Well, now I can tell you (laughs). When Domme won the silver medal in the downhill in Schladming, I went to the award ceremony with our service man Sepp Zanon. Actually we just wanted to go there briefly and then go back to the hotel. But as it is, nothing came of it. We completely crashed and only went home at an early hour. The coaches noticed and we took a huge hit. But what can I say, we just had to celebrate this runner-up title with Domme.”

…the difficulties of a World Cup race: “It’s just that one race that only happens once every two years. Everyone is more nervous than normal. If you drive well, you can become world champion. That’s a step higher than winning a World Cup race.”

…his winning tip for the combination: “My guess is Mauro Caviezel.”
