World Cup madness: Dominik Paris races to gold!

Exactly 4380 days have passed since Staudacher's sensational victory, and now another South Tyrolean is celebrating the Super-G world championship title in Åre: Dominik Paris won ahead of Johan Clarey and Vincent Kriechmayr at the same time. For a long time, the man from Ultimo could hardly believe his great triumph on this early Wednesday afternoon, because his journey was anything but error-free.

The 29-year-old, who was on the podium three times this season in the Super-G, tried to keep a clean line from the start, but kept abandoning it in the middle section and made a major mistake shortly before the finish when he I let the ski go too early and narrowly missed a gate. Since Paris started the race with starting number three, it initially seemed only a matter of time before he would be pushed out of the top position. But that wasn't the case: 38-year-old Clarey from France and the Austrian Kriechmayr were on course for gold for a long time during their journeys, but then had to settle for second place. Both were nine hundredths behind.
