Planning for the World Curling Championships is underway in Ritten

There are also three medals from the B group in the men's team game. As in 2008, the venue for the title fights is the Ritten Arena in Klobenstein. The team game and the target competition are held in the ice rink, the distance competition on the back straight of the Ritten speed skating ring. From February 17th to 20th, the Junior Curling World Champions (U23) and European Youth Curling Champions (U19, U16) will be crowned in all three curling disciplines in the Ritten Arena. Around 100 young curling athletes from ten to twelve countries will take part in the junior title fights.

“We are looking forward to missing the 2016 World Cup on Ritten with great joy, especially since we still have very good memories of the great 2008 World Cup on Ritten. We want to continue to ride this wave of success,” says the President of the World Curling Association, Manfred Schäfer. “I’m really looking forward to the big event. My entire OC team has already done a lot of preparatory work. Here in Ritten, the South Tyrolean women's team became world champions in team play for the first time in 2008 and the men became runners-up. Maybe there is still an improvement. “It should be an unforgettable celebration for all of us,” hopes OC boss Walter Prast.

The expectations of the South Tyrolean curling athletes at their home World Championships are very high, especially in the supreme discipline, the team game. In the men's category, the South Tyroleans start as defending champions. The South Tyrolean women's team, on the other hand, comes to the Ritten as reigning European champions. Eight years ago, the South Tyrolean women's team won World Cup gold in team play for the first time at Ritten. Mulser is the only player from the world champion team still there. “I would like to fulfill my dream of winning World Cup gold in the team game again at the home World Cup in February,” hopes Mulser, who this time is responsible for the South Tyrolean women’s team as a women’s specialist.

“All the players from the European champion team are in the squad. As preparation, I would like to hold several training courses in Brixen. “I’m also planning to take part in four tournaments with my team before the World Cup,” says Sonja Mulser. The South Tyrolean men's specialist Hans Hofer and the men's team are aiming for the final of the team game at the World Cup. Last year, the South Tyrolean men's team won the World Cup title in the team game for the third time in Innsbruck. “Our team will only be put together after the Italian championship. We are also planning several training courses in Brixen and participation in two tournaments,” says Hans Hofer.
