At the Italian Championships: Antholz opens to spectators

Next week the Italian summer biathlon championship titles will be awarded in the Puster side valley. The individual races are on the program on September 10th, followed the next day by the sprint competitions on the roller track. The first races start at 9.30:XNUMX a.m.

There are numerous talents from a wide variety of young categories, but also Italy's absolute elite around Dorothea Wierer, Lukas Hofer and Co.. But that's not all: the field of participants is being expanded to include some international biathlon greats who are currently in South Tyrol and the surrounding regions prepare for the new winter season and tackle the Italian Championship “out of competition”.

However, the title fights are not only an initial acid test at the shooting range and on the track, but also from an organizational point of view. For the first time since the 2020 World Cup, when crowds of fans made a pilgrimage to the upper Antholz Valley, the Südtirol Arena is opening its doors again. The authorities recently gave the green light and allowed spectators for the two days of racing - but under one condition: the Green Pass (vaccinated, recovered or tested) must be presented when entering the biathlon center. Admission is free. The Green Pass is essential The local fans and all those who are in the immediate area during the race days have the opportunity to look over the shoulders of the biathlon stars up close. At the same time, it is a first, small foretaste of what could follow next winter when the world's best ski hunters meet in Antholz from January 20th to 23rd.

Meanwhile, a concept is being worked on that will enable as many spectators as possible to have the usual World Cup experience on Antholz snow - depending, of course, and taking into account the Corona situation prevailing at the time. In any case, the goal is to utilize a large part of the usual daily capacity of more than 20.000 spectators.
