Antholz is preparing for the next record event

The biathlon center in Antholz is covered in thick white after the recent snowfall, the cross-country trails are perfectly prepared, the stands have been swept and the marquees have been erected. In short, everything is ready for the 2017 World Cup.

The only thing missing is the athletes who will do their first training laps at the foot of Hochgall from Monday. A modified racing program awaits Dorothea Wierer and Co. this season. It starts on Thursday with the women's individual competition, the discipline in which the local hero from Rasen was crowned World Cup winner last season. The men's individual race will take place the next day, before a mass start competition and a relay are on the program on the weekend days.

“In these disciplines, the local biathletes have recently been able to convince in large numbers. This is of course very convenient for us as organizers, as it further stimulates spectator interest,” explains organizing committee boss Lorenz Leitgeb. He is already looking forward to the World Cup event: “Now that there are only a few days left, the anticipation is increasing hour by hour.”

Three days live on Italian television

The enthusiasm for biathlon, which has been evident in the Antholz Valley for decades, has long since spread to the rest of Italy. This is also proven by the great interest of the Italian media - starting with the state television station RAI. This will broadcast the races of the first three days of competition live on its specialist channel RaiSport. The final two competitions on Sunday, however, are scheduled at a different time.

Next week the Biathlon World Cup will stop off in the Antholz Valley for the 39th time. There are six races on the program from Thursday to Sunday. Six races that will attract countless sports fans, journalists and many local celebrities to the South Tyrol Arena.
