Anti-doping measures: IBU plans independent integrity unit

This department is intended to centrally manage all integrity issues in biathlon, including anti-doping measures, ethical violations and any kind of result manipulation.

This so-called Integrity Unit is intended to be part of a new constitution of the world association, which the IBU members and the national associations will discuss and vote on at an extraordinary congress in the fall. An external commission set up at the end of 2018 under the leadership of the British lawyer Jonathan Taylor was commissioned to develop an initial proposal for the structure and basic working methods of the new department.

“The IBU is dedicated to protecting the integrity of biathlon. It is important that we have robust measures in place to protect our sport from those who seek to undermine its values,” said IBU President Olle Dahlin (Sweden).

Under the former IBU president Anders Besseberg (Norway), corruption and doping cover-ups had become rampant in the association. Besseberg's successor Dahlin has made it his mission to address the undesirable developments in the association and introduce necessary changes.
