Anton Shipulin started the race today with start number 1 and did not relinquish the lead until the finish. The Russian was able to fend off all attacks, ran a tactically clever race and was 22,6 seconds ahead of second-placed Jakov Fak at the finish, despite missing two pushes. For Shipulin it was his fourth World Cup victory. What is curious is that he celebrated three of them in the “Südtirol Arena”. The World Cup weekend in Antholz was also very successful for the Slovenian Jakov Fak. After third place in the sprint, he achieved another podium finish today with second place in the pursuit. The 25-year-old from Preddvor only made one mistake at the shooting range, like the experienced Austrian Daniel Mesotitsch, who took third place just three seconds behind Fak. For the 36-year-old from St. Jakob, it was the fifth podium in Antholz, where he has already won twice. World Cup leader Martin Fourcade came fourth, ahead of Emil Hegle Svendsen. The Norwegian fell from second place to fifth place after four shooting errors.

Lukas Hofer fourth until the last shooting The South Tyrolean fans were also hoping for a surprise for a long time today, because Lukas Hofer, who started the race with start number 23, was suddenly fourth. However, he made two mistakes in the last shooting and fell back to 13th place. Christian De Lorenzi finished the race two places behind, while Christian Martinelli finished 17th and Dominik Windisch from Oberrasn finished 20th. Martinelli ran particularly well, gaining 14 positions in the pursuit.

The German biathletes caused a huge disappointment. Andreas Birnbacher had to miss out due to stomach flu and so Florian Graf was the best in a distant 28th place.

But I tried to block everything out and I succeeded. I had a very difficult time in training, but after that I adapted very well to the conditions here.”

Daniel Mesotitsch (Austria), third: “Antholz is just good for me. I feel right at home here: the track, the shooting range, the hotel. Antholz is the perfect place for me to run races. What goals do I have going to the World Cup? First and foremost, I'm happy that I was able to qualify for it. Now we will see where the coach will position me. I’ll give it my all in the races in which I’m allowed to start – and then we’ll see.”
