Baby surprise: A top biathlete is pregnant

It is currently not an easy time for Russian biathletes. As is well known, you were excluded from all competitions by the international biathlon federation IBU because of the Ukraine conflict. Kristina Reztsova should be able to get over that. The 26-year-old from Moscow won't be taking part in any races this winter anyway because she is expecting her second child. This means that the Russian squad is losing one of its figureheads. Reztsova made a big impression in Beijing last February and won two medals with the Russian relay team: silver in the women's relay and bronze in the mixed relay. In the World Cup she was the best-placed Russian in the final ranking, achieved a podium place and finished fourth in the Antholz mass start, narrowly missing out on another podium finish. Her first son was born in 2021 This is remarkable because Reztsova has already become a mother once. Her son was born in February 2021, so she did not compete in any races that season. The 26-year-old then fought her way back and then had the best winter of her life. Now comes the baby surprise again. “I am five months pregnant,” she revealed on Russian television. “I want to spend a lot of time with the family.” Kristina Reztsova It is not clear when Reztsova will return to the biathlon stage. “It all depends on when and how I give birth. I want to get 100 percent fit again, but at the same time I want to spend a lot of time with my family. Last year was full of sporting events, so I didn’t have much time for the family – or for my husband either.” Reztsova, who has been dating the Russian roller ski athlete Ivan Anisimov for years, wants to enjoy her family happiness. It remains to be seen whether she will be able to compete on the international stage again with her Russian colleagues after her return.
