Strong as a bear: Hofer sprints onto the podium in Oslo

The Montaler finished second at Holmenkollen in Oslo thanks to an extremely strong performance. Hofer, who had remained flawless at the shooting range, was only beaten by the outstanding biathlete this season, Johannes Thingnes Bø. The Norwegian made a mistake in the standing stage, but even with one penalty, Bø was half a minute faster than Hofer.

The competition on Thursday was anything but easy to manage: thick fog meant that there was talk of a cancellation in advance, but it finally started anyway. The shooting range events in particular became difficult matters. This can also be seen in the results: Of the top athletes, only Lukas Hofer and the Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet had a complete overview and hit all 10 targets. In the end they took 2nd and 3rd place - beaten only by the dominator Johannes Thingnes Bø.

Second podium finish this season For Hofer it was the best result of the season and the second podium finish in a single race this winter: in Oberhof he finished third in the pursuit. It also seems as if Oslo suits the Montaler: he had already finished second in the pursuit at Holmenkollen last year.

The newly crowned mass start world champion Dominik Windisch made a mistake at the shooting range and ended up in 13th place. The speedster has therefore worked out a good starting position for the pursuit on Saturday.
