Moving farewell: Karin Oberhofer announces the end of her career

For ten years Oberhofer was involved in the absolute world elite of biathlon. She won the bronze medal in the mixed relay in Sochi in 2014, took two more third places at world championships in the women's relay and also took bronze in the mass start at the 2015 World Championships in Kontiolahti. She also reached the podium ten times in the World Cup. However, she narrowly missed out on an individual Olympic medal and a World Cup victory on several occasions.

Since her pregnancy a year and a half ago and the associated break from competition, Oberhofer has repeatedly worked her way back to her old performance level, but was no longer able to catch up with the world's best.

Now the 32-year-old from Feldthurns will say goodbye to competitive sports to spend more time with her now 10-month-old son Paul. She announced this decision with a message on her Home known. Oberhofer chose well-considered, moving words, which we reproduce unchanged here:

Today my son turns 10 months old and after much consideration I have decided to stop competing in sports. My motivation and joy for biathlon is still great, but I decided to go with the family because I am grateful and satisfied with what I have achieved and been able to experience. We often live too much in the past or are afraid of the future and completely forget to enjoy the present. This indescribable “inner peace” that little Paul has given me since he was born is wonderful to experience and I enjoy every single day and moment with him. Nevertheless, you suddenly know: It's time to start something new and trust the magic of the beginning. I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, my family, friends, relatives, FANS, my army sports group (CS Esercito) and my sponsors of the past years for their help and support. The most beautiful thing here on earth is to love and be loved. Secretly, quietly and quietly, I am sending you this message on your journey. It comes from the heart and I wish you all the best.
