Biathlon European Championships: South Tyroleans miss top placement

Alexia Runggaldier had to pay tribute to the extremely difficult conditions at the shooting range and finished the individual competition over 15 kilometers in 22nd position. The native of Val Gardena ended up with seven shooting errors. The Romanian Luminita Piscoran took the win, but she also missed a whopping five times. Behind her, the Austrian Christina Rieder and Ekaterina Yurlova from Russia completed the podium.

The men found significantly better racing conditions for a few hours. However, the excitement was only brief, as the Russian Alexey Volkov put in an outstanding performance and won by more than a minute over the Ukrainian Sergey Semenov. Bronze went to Vladimir Iliev from Bulgaria. Despite his good shooting performance (two errors), Maikol Demetz had to settle for 35th place. He crossed the finish line around seven and a half minutes behind.
