Biathlon mixed relay shines with second place

Lisa Vittozzi completed her task as starting runner excellently, made no shooting mistakes and even left the shooting range in the lead after her last shot. On the last loop of the cross-country ski trail she had to let Sweden and Belarus just overtake her before handing over to Dorothea Wierer.

“Doro” fell a little short of expectations, had to reload twice at the shooting range and lost two positions. When Dominik Windisch was replaced, Finland, Slovakia, Germany and Norway were ahead of the “Azzurri”.

What followed was a brilliant performance from Dominik Windisch. The racer made no mistakes and was also very fast on the cross-country ski trail. He made up position after position and, while in the lead, passed Lukas Hofer.

Hofer's contribution was not for the faint of heart: the first shooting started with two hits, then the thread broke. The Montaler needed five spare rounds and then even had to go into the penalty loop. The race for a top spot seemed to be over. But things went well on the cross-country ski trail and Hofer came close again. At the last shooting, Hofer was on the verge of becoming the leader, but the last shot went wrong and instead of being first, he left the shooting range in fourth place. In the last loop, Hofer gave it his all again, passed Slovakia and Germany and came very close to the Norwegian. The “Azzurri” ultimately achieved an excellent second place.

Biathlon mixed relay shines with second place

Dorothea Wierer, Dominik Windisch and Lukas Hofer, together with starting runner Lisa Vittozzi, narrowly missed out on victory at the Biathletes' World Cup opener in Östersund. They only had to admit defeat to the Norwegians by a few seconds.
