Biathlon break over: Now the hot phase begins

From a local perspective, only Dorothea Wierer and Lukas Hofer, who took 7th place at the World Team Challenge in Ruhpolding, were in action during the Christmas break. The latter will now skip the World Cup in Oberhof. “My body is still not in the state it should be. That’s why we decided to skip the next races,” Hofer explained his decision.

Dominik Windisch and Didier Bionaz, who last played at the IBU Cup in Obertilliach, are back in the Azzurri team. The South Tyrolean was able to gain self-confidence with, among other things, a podium finish in the individual competition. Completing the men's squad are Thomas Bormolini and Tommaso Giacomel, who - along with Hofer - have been the best Azzurri so far this season.

In the women's race, Federica Sanfilippo can look forward to being nominated again after she impressed in the Le Grand-Bornand sprint. The two driving forces Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi as well as Samuela Comola are also there. Wierer showed a strong upward trend at the last World Cup before Christmas and narrowly missed the podium in fourth place in the mass start.

The hot phase of the season begins with the World Cup in Oberhof. After the showdown in Thuringia, the classics in Ruhpolding (January 12th to 16th) and Antholz (January 20th to 23rd) are on the program before we head to China for the Olympic Games in Beijing (February 5th to 20th ) goes. It starts in Oberhof - due to the warm weather - not on Thursday as originally planned, but on Friday.
