Biathlon superstar Eckhoff: “That made me jealous”

It was a winter of superlatives that Tiril Eckhoff delivered over the past few months. 13 World Cup victories (eleven in the individual and two in the relay), medals in six of seven World Cup competitions and, to top it off, winning the overall World Cup – impressive numbers.

Nevertheless, the season was not an easy one for the power woman from Bærum, especially from a psychological point of view. “It was very difficult to constantly be afraid of corona infection. I landed a bit brutally after the season when everything was still closed and pretty sad. I was very tired after the season,” she told VG at the Blink Festival in Sandnes.

Eckhoff has already set her sights on the new season because she wants to fulfill her dream of winning the Olympics there. So far she has won a gold medal at the Games, but in the mixed relay. The biathletes face special conditions - especially because it is supposed to be very windy. “I prepare specifically for the scenarios that can occur in windy conditions.” She would ideally like to copy her previous season, but she admits: “Unfortunately, nothing can be copied in biathlon.”
