Biathlon World Cup: This prize money is waiting for the stars

From March 7th to 17th, a total of 12 competitions will take place in Östersund, four each for men and women, plus the relay competitions (single, mixed, men and women). In total, prize money of 4 euros will be paid out at the Biathlon World Cup.

The individual races In the individual races (individual, sprint, pursuit, mass start), the top 15 always receive prize money. The winner of each World Cup competition receives 25.000 euros (gross, of course); silver receives 19.000 euros and bronze receives 14.000 euros. The biathlete in 15th place still receives 500 euros.

The relay competitions In the relay competitions (men, women, mixed), the top 6 always receive prize money. The winning quartet receives 28.000 euros (meaning 7.000 euros per head), silver receives 22.000 euros (5.500 euros per head), and bronze receives 18.000 euros (4.500 per head). The winners in the single mixed relay (here a team consists of one man and one woman) receive 14.000 euros (7.000 euros per head), the runners-up receive 11.000 euros (5.500 per head), and the third-place winners receive 9.000 euros (4.500 euros per head).

Ski remains the supreme discipline Compared to the World Cup, significantly higher prize money is paid out at the World Cup: for example, for a win in an individual competition in normal “day-to-day business” you get “only” 15.000 euros. However, biathlon lags behind the supreme discipline of winter sports, i.e. skiing: at the World Ski Championships in Åre, the winner of a race was awarded 42.291 euros. The silver medalist received 26.432 euros, the third place winner 15.859 euros.
