Blech in pursuit: Hofer was just a bit missing

The conditions during the pursuit on Sunday were adverse, with the wind and cold putting a lot of strain on the athletes. And so hardly anyone got through without making mistakes - except for Lukas Hofer and Quentin Fillon Maillet. But while the Frenchman can look forward to another Olympic gold, the South Tyrolean “only” finished in the thankless 28,6th place behind Tarjei Bø (+35,3 seconds) and Eduard Latypov (+4). Hofer was already annoyed when he crossed the finish line and hit the snow with his stick. At the end of the day it is the first place without a medal, but the Pusterer can be proud of the extremely strong performance.

Hofer stalked his way towards the medal positions, shooting after shooting. In the end he came to the last standing stop together with the Bø brothers. While Johannes Thingnes Bø robbed himself of any medal chances with a catastrophic shooting performance (7 errors in total), his brother Tarjei did better. He went on the last lap together with Hofer and the Russian Eduard Latipov (he was second and had to go into the penalty loop once). At the front, Fillon Maillet ran alone to the Olympic victory. It soon became clear that Hofer could not keep up with his two competitors. While the South Tyrolean fell behind, the 27-year-old Latypov was defeated by Bø, who was six years his senior, in the fight for silver. There was nothing to shake Fillon Maillet's gold medal. For the 29-year-old Frenchman, it is the fourth medal in China after he won silver in the mixed relay and sprint and was crowned Olympic champion in the individual event.

Blech in pursuit: Hofer was just a bit missing

Lukas Hofer started the Olympic pursuit from 14th place. Thanks to an extremely strong performance, the Montaler went far forward and after the last shooting he suddenly even got a medal - but it wasn't to be.
