Bø sprints to Antholz victory – running miracle Windisch

In wonderful winter weather, the 24-year-old exceptional talent was in top form on the cross-country ski trails around the Südtirol Arena. He missed once, but with his excellent form he quickly made up for the time lost in the penalty loop and finally crossed the finish line after exactly 23:19,3 minutes. It should have been enough for the seventh win of the season, because all competitors subsequently bit their teeth at his time - including France's superstar Martin Fourcade. He was almost 13 seconds slower than Bø, but defended his lead in the overall World Cup in second place, directly ahead of the Norwegian winner of the day.

The podium was completed by the German Arnd Peiffer, who remained just as flawless with the rifle as Fourcade and was able to celebrate his first podium finish in the Olympic winter to the thunderous applause of the numerous German fans. Peiffer relegated Anton Shipulin, who is traditionally strong in Antholz, to fourth place.

The local biathletes only experienced the fight for the podium places as interested parties in front of the big screen. Numerous mistakes at the shooting range were their downfall. Rasner local hero Dominik Windisch came off as the best “Azzurro”. In difficult wind conditions during the first shooting session, he missed four times and was temporarily relegated to 99th place. After that, however, he made no mistakes and raced up to 17th place with an impressive performance on his skis. His teammate Lukas Hofer had to go into the penalty loop three times, but he also scored World Cup points in 27th place. Giuseppe Montello qualified for Saturday's pursuit race in 47th place, while the other two Italians, Thierry Chenal (65th) and Thomas Bormolini (78th), were further back in the rankings.

On Saturday the program continues at the World Cup in Antholz from 13.15:15 p.m. At first the women take part in the persecution, then at XNUMX p.m. it is the men's turn again. However, there is no longer any chance for spontaneous biathlon fans to follow the races. The tickets are completely sold out.

After making four mistakes, I still gave it my all because in such wind the competition also makes mistakes and it is still possible to achieve a good result. I was extremely fast on my skis today, I had really great material and I noticed that on the first lap.”
