BRONZE: Wierer fulfills her Olympic dream!

Wierer won her first Olympic medal in an individual event at the Guyangshu Biathlon Center on Friday, after taking bronze in the mixed relay eight and four years ago. The 8-year-old has thus achieved her biggest goal for the season and has crowned her already great career.

This is the third medal for South Tyrol at the Olympic Games in Beijing. As is well known, artificial track tobogganer Dominik Fischnelller and boardercrosser Omar Visintin also took bronze.

Wierer ran a perfect race and cleared all the targets at the shooting range. As usual, she was also one of the fastest shooters in the field. The South Tyrolean also showed improved form on the cross-country ski trail. On Friday, Wierer only had to admit defeat to the two best biathletes of the winter, Marte Olsbu Røiseland and Elvira Öberg. At the Games in Beijing she had previously won gold in the mixed relay and bronze in the individual competition. The 31-year-old from Norway left Öberg, who also made no mistakes, behind by 30,9 seconds. The young Swede took silver with a strong final lap. In the end she was almost 7 seconds faster than Wierer.

Wierer left fourth-placed Lisa Theresa Hauser behind by 10 seconds. The North Tyrolean also made no mistakes at the shooting range. Things didn't go as planned for the other Azzurre. Federica Sanfilippo (5) and Lisa Vittozzi (4) made too many mistakes on the shooting range. Samuela Comola, however, was unable to keep up with her running. Next medal chance on Sunday For Wierer, however, you are slowly running out of superlatives. This strength of nerves in crucial moments had distinguished her throughout her entire career. On Sunday (10 a.m.) in the pursuit, the three-time world champion and two-time overall World Cup winner will have her next chance for Olympic medals. Then Wierer will go on the chase as third. The starting position is therefore excellent.
