Christoph Pircher: “Guarantee is a bit of a lofty word. I'm doing my best and we have a good team. That’s how it works.” What were the conditions here in Shchushinsk, Kazakhstan? “I have to say that it was very difficult. The wind, which is constantly changing, really confuses us athletes. But I fought and knew I had to avoid the penalty loop. I managed to do that, and my three subsequent colleagues did the same. At the end we got a medal, which we were very happy about.” The World Cup isn't over here in Kazakhstan yet. Sprint and pursuit still to come. “Of course I will give everything tomorrow and the day after. The competition is strong, but I always go into every race with confidence. We'll see what the final days of this World Cup have to offer. Of course, an individual medal would also be a special success.” Final question: How does a young man from Überetsch (Pircher still lives with his mother in Eppan) get into biathlon? “My father is a biathlon coach in Primiero. Through him I came into contact with this sport, which fascinated me. That's how I came to SV Ridnaun. I am totally grateful to Isabella Filippi and Christian Braunhofer there for welcoming and supporting me so well. I was also given the opportunity to attend the sports school in Mals, so the distances were shorter than the constant journeys from Überetsch to the competition venues. I enjoyed good training and benefit from it today.”
