Colombo and Horn triumph in Ridnaun

For a long time in the women's pursuit competition it looked as if sprint winner Lou Jeanmonnot could win again. But in the fourth and final shooting exercise, the Frenchwoman bought two tickets. Her compatriot Caroline Colombo coldly took advantage of this mishap. The 26-year-old from Mouthe, who started the race in sixth place, 43 seconds behind, had worked her way up to second place despite making three mistakes in the first three shooting tests. Colombo left another target at the end, but she passed Jeanmonnot, held the top position until the finish and took victory in 30.43,7:6,9 minutes. Norway's Ragnhild Femsteinevik came second, XNUMX seconds behind, while Jeanmonnot crossed the finish line in third place and became the new overall IBU Cup champion.

The best result from an Italian perspective in the pursuit competition on Saturday went to Aostan's Beatrice Trabucchi, who was the only one of the 60 participants who remained clean at the shooting range, gained 12 positions and ended up 17th (+1.56,9). Her sister Martina Trabucchi was one place behind, after a fatal last shooting (three errors) cost her a top result. Linda Zingerle from Antholz had to go into the penalty loop a total of six times, but still managed to score a few points in 37th place. A quartet stops In the fight for the discipline ranking, Jenny Enodd from Norway almost took the lead. However, the Scandinavian left the very last disc standing, which probably not only cost her the day's victory, but also the crystal trophy. Victory in the pursuit classification went to the Russian Evgeniia Burtasova, who did not start in Ridnaun. After the end of the competition, four biathletes were also bid farewell to their biathlon retirement by their colleagues, namely the two Swedes Ingela Andersson and Elisabeth Hoegberg, as well as Hallie Grossman from the USA and the British Amanda Lightfoot. In the men's race, Philipp Horn from Germany almost celebrated a start-to-finish victory. Starting the race in third place, 15 seconds behind sprint winner Erlend Bjoentegaard (Norway), the 27-year-old from Oberhof made no mistakes in the first three shooting tests and in the meantime expanded his lead over the competition to almost one and a half minutes. Horn did get a ticket at the last shooting, but in the end the DSV biathlete prevailed in 31.44,7:40,9 minutes, 49,7 seconds ahead of Bjoentegaard and XNUMX seconds ahead of Marco Gross - also from Germany. “I showed a strong running performance in the sprint, but I wasn't at all satisfied with my shooting. That's why I wanted to decide the competition today at the shooting range and I succeeded," analyzed the day's winner Horn at the finish. Erlend Bjoentegaard, on the other hand, wasn't just happy about his seventh podium this season. The 31-year-old from Oslo was presented with the crystal trophies for the pursuit classification as well as the overall IBU Cup classification. Meanwhile, his best result in the IBU Cup was achieved by Michele Molinari from Valfurva, who finished ninth in the pursuit on Saturday and was therefore also the best “Azzurro”. In general, the Italian team showed a strong performance, placing three other athletes in the top 11 with Daniele Cappellari (12th), local hero Patrick Braunhofer from Ridnaun (20th) and Daniele Fauner (20th).

On Sunday the IBU Cup final in Ridnaun will conclude with a single mixed relay starting at 10.30 a.m. and a mixed relay (starting at 13 p.m.).
