Dahlmeier thought about retiring after the Olympics

“The fire still burns inside me. I turned my hobby into a career, and you can't just throw it away. I can't say how long this will last. “I don’t plan long-term, but from year to year,” the 25-year-old told Sport Bild at the World Cup in Östersund.

The double Olympic champion and seven-time world champion had long thought about retiring after the 2018 Olympics. “The air was gone, there was a certain emptiness in me. I had achieved all my goals.” But she noticed, Dahlmeier added, “that sport is still my great passion.”

At the title fights in Östersund, Dahlmeier (Partenkirchen) has won bronze in the sprint and pursuit despite renewed health problems. In the individual, she finished fourth and missed her 14th World Championship medal in a row by just seven seconds.

I can perhaps go a little further beyond my pain threshold than others. The cycle collapses. Then I lie down, put my legs up, and after 15 or 20 minutes everything is fine again,” she said. This is “nothing dramatic. If you go into the deep red zone, that can happen.”
