The last race in Antholz goes to France

France celebrated their second World Cup victory in a row today in Antholz after Ruhpolding. Simon Fourcade, Jean Guillaume Beatrix, Alexis Boeuf and Martin Fourcade were always in the lead from the start and took the lead after the third change, which they did not relinquish until the finish. Only Russia was able to keep up, but had to admit defeat by 10,1 seconds. The duel between the final runners Martin Fourcade and Dmitry Malyshko, which the French World Cup leader won in the standing shooting, was particularly exciting. Fourcade finished in 1:13.26,0 hours, ahead of Russia and Austria. Mesotitsch & Co. took advantage of the catastrophic performance of the Czech runner, who completely botched his run and fell from 3rd to 6th place. The Austrians repeated Ruhpolding's third place.

The relay was disappointing for the German team, who had to settle for 7th place. Erik Lesser, who started the race as the second runner, even had to run four penalty laps.

The “Azzurri” finished eleventh, almost three minutes behind France. Christian De Lorenzi switched to Dominik Windisch, 36 seconds behind, who had to go into the penalty loop in the second shooting. His brother Markus then lost one more place and slipped back to 12th place, while final runner Lukas Hofer was only able to gain one position by the time he reached the finish.

Markus Windisch (ITA), 11th place : “Of course I'm a little disappointed that I was only the sixth man here and therefore only took part in the relay. But it is a decision of the coaches and that must be accepted. Other times someone else had to go without. Today I just wanted too much and that's why I was over-motivated, especially at the shooting range. I need to get a better handle on this.”
