The Biathlon World Cup is entering the home stretch

Immediately after the World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, the best biathletes in the world set off for Östersund. The stage in Sweden is the penultimate one of this biathlon winter. The World Cup will then conclude next week in Oslo (Norway).

In the overall World Cup, Lisa Vittozzi (720 points) and Dorothea Wierer (679) are in third and fourth place. However, the gap to the leader Julia Simon (893) will probably be too big to be able to catch up in the remaining five individual races. The Frenchwoman will probably secure the big crystal ball for the first time this year. Elvira Öberg (735), who was recently hit, is currently second.

Chance of crystal Both Wierer and Vittozzi are still fighting for a small crystal ball this year. Vittozzi is in the lead in the individual World Cup – before the last race on Thursday in Östersund. The lead over second-placed Hanna Öberg is 15 points. Wierer, however, takes second place in the Sprint World Cup – 14 points behind Denise Herrmann-Wick. However, there is no sprint in Östersund. This discipline ranking will only be decided at the final in Oslo.

10 Azzurri has nominated sports director Klaus Höllrigl for the stage in Östersund. For the women, these are Vittozzi, Wierer, Samuela Comola and the two Antholzers Rebecca Passler and Hannah Auchentaller. Last Saturday in the pursuit of Nove Mesto, all five Azzurre made it into the top 30. In the men's race, Tommaso Giacomel, Didier Bionaz, Elia Zeni, Daniele Cappellari and South Tyrolean Patrick Braunhofer were nominated for the penultimate stage.
