The next prominent biathlon retirement

In the last few days it has been announced that besides Dominik Windisch also the Frenchman Simon Desthieux will not continue his career. Now it's clear: Desthieux's compatriot Anaïs Bescond will also put her rifle and cross-country skis in the corner. The 34-year-old announced this on Friday morning in an emotional message on social media.

“All good things come to an end at some point,” Bescond wrote to her fans. “This spring I will be putting my rifle away and let me tell you, I will miss it. Today, when I look back at all the beautiful last years, it reminds me of so many things. There were ups, downs, falls, rollercoaster rides, injuries, beautiful encounters, friendships, podium finishes and tasty medals.”

“I have grown with and thanks to biathlon. Now I will turn a page to continue on my path. But first I will enjoy it all one last time,” were the touching words of Bescond, who once again showed off big things this year and landed on the podium in two World Cup competitions. She will compete in her last races at the World Cup finals in Oslo. Numerous successes The experienced biathlete from Normandy was one of the most experienced ski hunters in the scene. She celebrated her greatest successes at the 2018 Olympics, when she won bronze in the pursuit, and at the 2016 World Championships in Oslo, when she took individual silver. She was also always very successful in relay competitions and won Olympic and World Championship gold with the mixed relay, among other things. Bescond celebrated her only World Cup victory in the Antholz Sprint in 2014, and she also has ten other individual podium places and eleven relay victories in the highest biathlon series.
